BETWEEN DRESDEN, MILAN AND PRAGUE: A SEASON OPENING AND A TOURNÉE FOR DANIELE GATTI

From September 6 to 14, the Italian conductor will be touring Europe with the Staatskapelle Dresden

The opening of the Staatskapelle Dresden’s 2025/26 season and a tournée with stops in Rheingau, Milan, Bucharest, Linz and Prague are the upcoming engagements of conductor Daniele Gatti. On Sunday, August 31 (with repeat performances on September 1 and 2), he opens his second season as Chief Conductor of the Staatskapelle — his tenure began in August 2024 — with a concert at the Semperoper in Dresden. On this occasion, the Italian conductor will pair Tōru Takemitsu’s Requiem for String Orchestra with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 and Rückert-Lieder for voice and orchestra, with contralto soloist Marie-Nicole Lemieux.

The European tournée begins on September 6 at the Rheingau Musik Festival, with a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 in the Basilica of Eberbach Monastery. The same work will then be performed, this time once again alongside Takemitsu’s Requiem, in three further tour stops: on September 8 at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, on September 10 at Sala Palatului in Bucharest for the George Enescu International Festival, and on September 13 at the International Brucknerhaus in Linz, Austria. During the tournée, two additional programs will also be proposed, with pianist Kirill Gerstein as soloist in Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54. Schumann’s concerto will be performed, on September 11 in a second concert at Sala Palatului in Bucharest, together with George Enescu’s Concert Overture on Popular Romanian Themes in A major, Op. 32 and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral” and on September 14, at the Dvořák Festival in Prague, together with Mahler’s Symphony No. 5.

Throughout the 2025/26 season, Daniele Gatti will lead two further international tournée with the Staatskapelle Dresden. The first will take place in China from November 1 to 9, featuring seven concerts in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Guangzhou. Two different programs will be presented, including Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major with pianist Bruce Liu. The second tournée, from May 19 to June 4, 2026, will once again bring the orchestra to Europe, with stops in Barcelona, Madrid, Vienna, Essen, Hamburg, Paris, Frankfurt and Prague. On this occasion, the program will also include Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, with soloists Eleonora Buratto, Elīna Garanča, Benjamin Bernheim and Michele Pertusi.
