To inhabit a city through music, to listen to its voices, and to return its energy in a live recital. Sonata for 7 Cities: live in Vienna is the new album by thirty-year-old pianist Filippo Gorini for Alpha Classics / Outhere Music France, marking the discographic starting point of Sonata for 7 Cities, an international initiative conceived by Gorini that unfolds across seven cities worldwide, combining musical research with social engagement.
After the intense Vienna residency in February 2025 – which involved schools, a retirement home, a soup kitchen, and cultural institutions, culminating in two concerts at the Konzerthaus – pianist Filippo Gorini makes his African debut, bringing his project Sonata for 7 Cities to Cape Town and Stellenbosch from August 21 to September 26.
Filippo Gorini, the twenty-nine-year-old pianist, is revolutionizing concert market conventions by bringing music to everyone in seven cities around the world through seven month-long artistic residencies, commissioning works from seven contemporary composers. “Sonata for 7 Cities” is the visionary project awarded the Franco Buitoni Award in 2023, which aims to promote philanthropic and educational initiatives through classical and contemporary music.
