«The image I chose to summarise the story of La traviata is that of a broken mirror: it represents the destiny of a woman celebrated by a society that, at the same time, is the very society that destroys her». These are the words of Damiano Michieletto, who from 22 July to 23 August stages his first La traviata.
“It is a story that can tell us a great deal about the psychological dynamics linked to political power in today’s world." This is the lens through which Damiano Michieletto interprets La clemenza di Tito, Mozart’s drama with which he returns to the Opernhaus Zürich fourteen years after his Poliuto in 2012.
